Heart Of The Park Building

The Heart of the Park Building forms the centre of community activity for the Arboretum and is the main meeting place for the Friends Group.

There is no current news of the Friends Group but it is hoped that we can get something up and running again in the not too distant future,

There has been no news on development regarding the Cafe, The fountain has been repaired and new, accurately made Victorian style  railings have been installed.

In the News

There have been reports in the press regarding gangs of yobs causing trouble and Asian yobs carrying out racist attacks on non Asian visitors. This has prompted an immediate response from the authorities and action has been taken to apprehend the culprits and put a stop to the problems.

Local Community Leaders and members of the public are working with the police and council to resolve these problems. After all the efforts put into this project by the Council, the Police and members of the local community it would be shameful for this handful of yobs to be allowed to undermine the Arboretum.

Regular patrols now take place by officers armed with mobile camera units to gather evidence against the law breakers. Three new Rangers have been set on to patrol and manage the Arboretum. The moves have been welcomed by the local community and community leaders. The Arboretum MUST be made more attractive to visitors from all corners of the country and the world.

Recent negative press coverage was created following complaints about alcoholics gathering in the Arboretum and illegally consuming alcohol at the same time making a nuisance of themselves and abusing regular park visitors.
