The Arboretum is approached via a lime tree avenue passing through the Rose Hill Recreation Ground, at the side of the lodge alongside what is now the Ground's football pitch. The entrance to the Arboretum is at the end of the path. |

| This entrance lodge
, designed Architect H.
I Stevens., and
built by the Town Council in 1845, is located
at the Rose Hill Street entrance to the Rose Hill Recreation Ground.
This is marked on the 1860 map as a reading room. |

|
Designed by Edward Buckton Lamb The 1899 Ordnance Survey map shows this area as Rose Hill, with no mention of the words "recreation ground", but clearly shows the location of the Victorian Bandstand. The Arboretum is clearly shown as a separate area.

This photo shows the gateway to the Arboretum from Rose Hill, which now stands between the Changing rooms/toilets and the main Heart of the Park building. This entrance will have a new gate and the Florentine Boar will be placed on its plinth, the base of which is visible in this photo. |
|
This was the third entrance to the Arboretum, opened in 1845 with the newly acquired Rose Hill grounds. |
